We need your help. The Mount Vernon Fire Department and the Rescue Unit are looking for a few good men and women to join us and give a little bit back to this wonderful community we call Mount Vernon.

What does it take to belong? Not much. The Fire Department meets twice a month (1st and 3rd Thursdays). We provide extensive training, personal protective gear and a wonderful group of people to work with. You respond to fire calls with us when you can.

Rescue also meets twice a month (2nd and 4th Thursdays). To start you need to take an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or First Responder course. These courses are offered periodically, sometimes even right at Maranacook. Ongoing training is also provided and again you get to work with a wonderful and dedicated group of people.

No matter which group you choose (and you can do both), you will have the satisfaction of doing an essential job and giving something back to your community. Your reward is helping to save someone's home or maybe easing the pain and anxiety of an accident victim. The camaraderie and mutual trust make a hard job easier and sometimes even fun.

It's a significant commitment, but not impossible. The personal rewards and service to the townspeople are equally significant. Think about it.
